The project involves the rebuilding of the nursery school at the Tullia Zevi Institute, in Casal Palocco district of Rome.
Located in an area of approximately 5,000 square metres characterised by extensive green spaces, the current building has serious problems: it consists of three prefabricated blocks that are now obsolete, built using construction techniques that do not allow for further maintenance work. Furthermore, the fragmentation into separate buildings not only causes significant energy loss but also drastically limits the educational services offered, as the lack of adequate space for a kitchen and lunchroom prevents the school from operating on a full-time basis, causing inconvenience for families in the neighbourhood.
The area is characterised by moderate seismic activity and is subject to hydraulic risk constraints due to its proximity to drainage canals. To address these issues, the project proposes the complete demolition of the old buildings and the reconstruction of a single modern and sustainable building. This approach, supported by a favourable cost-benefit analysis, focuses on modular prefabricated construction to ensure rapid completion and high-quality standards.
The new building will be designed as a strategic structure and will meet rigorous criteria for energy efficiency, sound insulation and fire safety. In addition to operational savings, the new project will allow for flexible use of space, promoting inclusion and educational innovation.
The project will finally provide the school building with canteen facilities and laboratories, meeting the local community’s demand for a full-time school service that can reconcile parents’ work commitments with a safe, modern educational environment set amidst greenery.
