Restoration of the pavements in Via Nomentana - Piazzale di Porta Pia

The project, which is aimed at redeveloping the Porta Pia area, is divided into two phases:

  • The first one provides for the creation of a new pedestrian crossing in front of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the extension of the cycle path in Via Nomentana, up to the intersection with Viale del Policlinico and the connection with the existing path along the Walls, the redesign of the bus stop on the side of the Ministry, the redevelopment of the pavements in Via Nomentana (up to Via Messina). To carry out this intervention, the now unused pedestrian underpass was laid down;
  • The second one, involves the restoration of the large area surrounding the Monument to the Bersagliere, between Via Ancona and Corso d'Italia, with the construction of a pedestrian plaza with a large central flowerbed, partially paved and equipped with street furniture.

The amount allocated to these interventions will be €1,350,000 from the Budget of Roma Capitale and the Jubilee funds. The resources allocated by the Jubilee (€800,000) are one of which of the intervention Extraordinary maintenance of pavements on main roads: Historic District

SUSTAINABILITY

Redevelopment of Piazza Bottego and Via del Campo Boario

The project consists in the redevelopment of Piazza Vittorio Bottego. The square, which is circular in shape, is situated just up against the Aurelian Walls on the border with the 1st City Hall, between Monte dei Cocci and the Protestant Cemetery. It serves as a connecting point between the Testaccio district and the Ostiense district. The works will:

  • modify the profile of the central flowerbed of the Piazza Bottego roundabout and extend the the green area and the resize of the roadway, in order to increase its safety and improve viability;

  • redesign the road pavement nearby the arches of the walls, where a band of sanpietrini will be built into the carriageway pavement, which will reduce the speed of entry into the roundabout and provide continuity to the pedestrian paths, underlining the layout of the walls;

  • create a pedestrian path in draining stabilised earth along the Aurelian Walls on Via del Campo Boario, thus enhancing the ancient walls and promoting their use.

Creation of a new Youth Hostel in Santa Maria della Pietà

The project consists of the construction of a new Youth Hostel within the area of the former Provincial Psychiatric Hospital of Santa Maria della Pietà in Rome. Pavilion 10 of the structure, currently unused and degraded, will be renovated, restored, and equipped with 70 beds. The building will thus gain a new function as a youth hostel serving the Jubilee 2025. Santa Maria della Pietà complex is situated in a highly urbanized and densely populated area, in a hub connecting the northeast area with the city centre. It represents an important resource for the entire urban quadrant.

The complex consists of 37 pavilions - 12 owned by the Lazio Region and 25 owned by ASL Roma 1 - connected to each other by a road network totaling seven kilometers and set within a park of over 30 hectares, which represents an important botanical and natural heritage for the city, being made up of a large variety of tall tree species. The construction of the new hostel is part of a broader plan that includes various recovery interventions: other pavilions will be renovated and used for the offices of the municipality XIV of Roma Capitale, while the renovation of some pavilions for regional functions is already underway.

Working site considered partially closed and operating at the beginning of the Jubilee Year.

Construction of the Pigneto railway stop and the connection with the line C underground station

The redevelopment work in the Pigneto district will see the construction of an interchange node between the railway network and the metro line C. The Pigneto railway stop project on the FL1/FL3 line will be developed in two phases:

• Activation of the stop with the partial construction of the transversal cover, which will also include two pedestrian connections between the Casilina west and east ring roads.

• Completion of the transversal cover of the railway fence with the activation of the underpass connecting with the Metro C stop in Pigneto.

Restoration of the quay on the right bank of the Tiber between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Flaminio

The intervention consists of the arrangement of the Tiber quay between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Flaminio. The work will make this stretch of river, now in a state of abandonment, usable and accessible to citizens. The quay area is currently covered by river sediment and spontaneous vegetation. The area has been designated as a 'Natural Oasis' by the Plan PS5 of the Basin Authority, therefore the intervention will maintain the characteristics of the natural landscape by restoring the functionality of the quay and eliminating numerous invasive species through targeted mowing.

Extraordinary maintenance of the paving of the quays of the Tiber, right and left bank

The project involves the redevelopment of the left and right quays of the Tiber in the section between Ponte Pietro Nenni and Ponte Sublicio. Currently, the riverbanks are degraded, with cobblestone pavement showing several potholes or worn surfaces. Additionally, the edges of the quays are often uneven due to the root systems of abundant invasive vegetation along the bank. The intervention will therefore involve repairing and replacing damaged pavements (travertine slabs, cobblestones), restoring uneven edges, and protecting the vegetation by removing roots.

Restoration and construction of hauling slides on the Tiber for law enforcement boats

The work involves the restoration and construction of hauling slides on the Tiber for the boats of the National Fire Brigade, the Carabinieri and the State Police. These law enforcement agencies have stations along the Tiber River in the urban area of Rome, each with its own operational facilities and specialized units for river navigation, rescue operations, and institutional duties. Over time, river floods have destroyed or damaged their vessel launching facilities. Currently, unofficial slides or those not located near their operational bases are being used, leading to potential delays during emergency operations. The new and refurbished slides will enhance safety and response times during emergencies, ensuring the coverage of the entire urban stretch of the Tiber River in Rome.
