Scenic park Lungotevere delle Navi (former WWF oasis)
Implementing party
Project description
The area of the Jubilee project extends from the left bank of the Tiber River to the section of Via Flaminia between Porta del Popolo and Piazzale Belle Arti, and the respective slopes of Monti Parioli and Villa Borghese.
More precisely, the area of work was the left bank—considering the direction of the river flow—between Ponte Risorgimento and Ponte Matteotti, in the floodplain area of the Tiber River inside Municipality II, formerly a WWF oasis.
Priority objectives were usability and accessibility, with regard to the educational profile, through the construction of removable structures, built exclusively with natural materials. This was made combining environmental and landscape sustainability criteria, with minimal work that improved the aesthetic value and liveability of the area.
The vocation as a "natural oasis" guided the project, in terms of a naturalistic-educational usability, through a series of interventions, including the wooden walkway, which runs lengthwise through the area and connects rest areas to spaces for educational activities. This was combined with a new configuration of the overlook slope, able to enhance the peculiarity of the area and make it attractive to citizens.
