Environmental and vegetation redevelopment of Viale Mazzini and Piazza Mazzini

Project description

The project involved the redevelopment of the green area of Piazza Mazzini and Viale Mazzini, following safety guidelines and taking into account the existing plant species, with the planting of missing species, the arrangement of furnishings, pavements, retaining flower beds, edging and accessory works.

The project included the planting of:

  • approximately 130 new trees, including Quercus ilex and Cupressus sempervirens;
  • approximately 730 linear metres of new ornamental hedges, including Laurus nobilis and Pittosporum tobira.

Due to climatic reasons, the completion of the plantings along the perimeter of the

square will take place in October, at the start of the agronomic season.

The decorated surfaces, the flooring of the fountain and its architectural elements and

have been restored with a distinguished intervention by the Capitoline Superintendence.

Specifically, the interventions carried out included the redevelopment and maintenance of vegetation and the restoration of architectural elements.

Vegetation and environmental redevelopment of the square and avenue:

  1. Phytostatic surveys (over 58 tomographies and 27 pulling tests);
  2. Mandatory felling for the phytosanitary status of 72 trees (of which 2 are laurels);
  3. Removal of the existing geotextile and the polluted lapillus above;
  4. "AirSpade" - blowing intervention;
  5. Supply of lapillus for about 915 m3;
  6. Intervention of containment pruning and mandatory section;
  7. New plantings of tree species: 113 holm oaks, 13 cypresses, 4 pines and 730 linear metres of hedges;
  8. New plantings inside the rhomboidal flower beds about 220 plants for pollinators.

Maintenance of paving and street furniture:

  1. Restoration of about 1500 square meters of the pavement of the pedestrian walkways inside the areas in porphyry cubes with integration of the supply of about 900 square meters of cubes;
  2. Maintenance of existing road surfaces and seats;
  3. Supply of road verges 1020 ml;
  4. Supply of 24 new additional seats in addition to the restoration of 8 split seats;
  5. Supply of new waste holders.

Restoration of the architectural, decorative and sculptural elements of the square:

  1. Restoration of pine cones and vases;
  2. Restoration of travertine bases;
  3. Restoration of peperino seats;
  4. Restoration of the exedra river pebble floor with reconstruction of the original design;
  5. Supply of 16 terracotta vases for integration as an original project.
  6. Restoration of the original paving of the square in river pebbles in the exedra and in porphyry cubes at the entrance of the fountain, found during the works, including the reconstruction of 6 street gullies equal to the original trapezoidal shape with a star in the center in travertine;
  7. Construction of the 4 entrance walkways in the square in porphyry cubes surrounded by curbs travertine;
  8. Restoring the beating path of the square;
  9. Restoration of the public lighting system.
