Parini Library
Implementing party
Metropolitan City of Rome
Project description
The former Parini school is located in the III Municipality, in the former village of Tufello. The structure covers over 3,000 square metres and consists of a three-storey building with a terrace roof, a one-storey building originally intended as a canteen, a small service annex, and is located in a courtyard area of relevance.
The new cultural centre/library will be organised, adapting the planned functional programme to the architectural, spatial and structural characteristics of the existing building. For this reason, the recovery and architectural enhancement of the building, in respect of the original distributive identity, require defining a more open and flexible spatial order, compatible with the existing logic of the succession of "rooms".
Library 3.0 will be a point of lending and consultation, but above all it will be a place of information, access to new technologies, Internet browsing, a place to promote reading and activities for all ages: adults, children and teenagers. The new structure will combine the need to preserve and protect the architectural and structural character of the former Parini school building, adapting it to the recent trends in the use of library spaces that favour the adoption of a dynamic, fluid and useful system of spaces, capable of favouring a wide range of interactions between the different activities established by pursuing the innovative model of the civic centre. A network of rooms that orders a wide functional offer and the creation of a safe and inclusive public space aimed at both motor and sense-perceptual disabilities, and all special educational needs.
