Redevelopment of the market in Via Sannio
Implementing party
Project description
The redevelopment of the market area of Via Sannio has long been a strategic objective, both for the neighborhood and for the entire city. The intervention arises from the need to counter the current state of decay and to enhance and regularise the commercial activities present. The design is structured along two principal axes: one running orthogonally to Via Sannio and the other parallel to the archaeological pathway laid out within the garden, serving as a historical memory. The proposal provides for the creation of two blocks of stalls, one square in plan and the other rectangular, positioned alongside the park to generate an open central area and a more clearly defined frontage towards Via Locri. On the southern side, a refreshment point will be constructed, available to both market-goers and park users. For the toilets, the existing facilities on Via Locri, currently managed by Ama, will be refurbished and brought back into use. The entire market area will be delimited by a 2.30 m high "palatine" metal fence, with gated openings to allow the whole space to be secured when necessary. The site will also be equipped with wayfinding and assistance devices for the visually impaired. Particular attention has been given to the roofing: an extensive green roof will be installed, planted with species requiring little water and minimal maintenance. In addition to its aesthetic value, the green roof will regulate rainwater, help reduce ambient temperatures, provide acoustic insulation, improve air quality, and encourage biodiversity.
