Project description
The PNRR Investment 3.1 "Protection and enhancement of urban and non-urban green areas" provides for forestation interventions within the Metropolitan City of Roma Capitale. The goal is to improve air quality, mitigate the effects of climate change, and fight biodiversity loss for the benefit of citizens' health and well-being.
The project, focusing on the southern part of the Aniene Valley, involves a reforestation initiative within the territory of Rome, in Le Georgiche area (Municipality IV). The project will cover an area of approximately 9.3495 hectares, bounded by Via di Tor Cervara to the west, the A90 motorway to the east, Via Tiburtina to the north and the E80 motorway to the south.
A total of 9,350 new certified native plants will be planted in the area, including specimens of maple, hornbeam, oriental hornbeam, hackberry, Judas tree, ash, apple, wild cherry, holm oak, downy oak, Turkey oak, English oak, poplar, willow and field elm.
To ensure the effectiveness of the interventions, the investment includes a 5-year cultivation plan based on the replacement of dead plants, ordinary and extraordinary irrigation, protection of young saplings, mowing, and the control of invasive alien species.
