Creation of the new Park in Via Ipponio
Implementing party
Project description
Opened in April 2026, the new park on Via Ipponio is a green space created through the area’s renaturation works carried out by the Department of Environmental Protection. Where there used to be a simple tarmac road, residents now have a revitalised space featuring children’s play equipment, new seating, new plants and flowerbeds.
The removal of the asphalt allowed for the replacement of a layer of tarmac with 960 square metres of stabilised paving and over 1,000 square metres of green space. The project has increased the soil’s drainage capacity and improved the local microclimate, whilst also helping to reduce the ‘heat island’ effect.
The project also involved the planting of 14 new trees (including Quercus ilex, Cupressus sempervirens, Pinus Pinea, Cercis siliquastrum, Platanus acerifolia and Ginkgo biloba), 384 new shrub species, 3,308 new perennials and 429 ground-cover plants.
Along Via Ipponio and within the newly created green pathways, 16 monolithic stone seats have been installed, comprising 8 linear and 8 curved ones, along with 9 new flowerbeds bordered by travertine edging, which house the trees, perennials and ground cover plants. At the centre of the new park, a 145-square-metre children’s play area has been created, fitted with safety surfacing.
The new green space is equipped with 26 new lighting points installed by Areti. The Aurelian Walls will also soon be illuminated by 19 recessed spotlights.
