Restoration of Pavilion 15b of the former Slaughterhouse

Implementing party

Università Roma 3

Project description

The project involved the conversion and restoration of Pavilion 15B of the former Testaccio Slaughterhouse, a compound built at the end of the nineteenth century to a design by the architect Ersoch.

Inside the pavilion, originally intended as livestock stables, studios and workspaces have been created for the lecturers of the Department of Architecture at Roma Tre University, as well as two seminar rooms.

During the restoration work, the pavilion’s floor area was also expanded, increasing from approximately 1,000 square metres to over 1,200 square metres.

The completed project forms part of the wider programme of works on the pavilions assigned to Roma Tre University under the Fourth Programme Agreement and the Slaughterhouse Utilisation Plan (2004), formally granted free of charge to the University by the Heritage Department of Roma Capitale in February 2023. The final design for the project, approved by the Services Conference in December 2021, was drawn up by the University’s technical offices with the consultancy of Prof. Francesco Cellini.
