Selva Candida Library
Implementing party
Metropolitan City of Rome
Project description
The intervention area, of about 3,944 square metres, located near Via Cusino, in the Selva Candida area (XIV Municipality), houses two semi-rural buildings already used as private residences. The intervention involves the demolition and reconstruction of a new energy-efficient library, using active strategies (such as photovoltaic panels and air conveyors for mechanical ventilation) and passive strategies (natural ventilation, insulated casing, retraction of the transparent walls to the south, collection and reuse of rainwater).
This recovery intervention will promote the regeneration of an area currently degraded and lacking urban services, contributing to the limitation of land consumption. The redevelopment will allow the community to benefit from regenerated spaces and improved amenities.
Internally, the library will be organised in different areas to meet the needs of users. On the ground floor there will be social spaces and two multifunctional rooms adjacent to the stairs, adaptable to various modes of use. On the first floor, an outdoor terrace will be an extension of the common area and will lead directly to the main room of the library.
