Caput Mundi: Restoration of the Fountain in Piazza Mazzini
Implementing party
Project description
The restoration project includes a wide range of interventions affecting various elements of the fountains, such as the central basin, the sculptural apparatus, the surrounding mosaic promenade and the seating. Below is a detailed list of the work:
- restoration of all sculptural decorations. Restoration works will be carried out on all the sculptural elements of the fountains. This will involve cleaning the sculptures, repairing any damages, restoring missing or deteriorated parts and the application of a final coating to preserve integrity;
- restoration of metal elements and fence. Railings, brackets and other decorative details will be subject to intervention such as cleaning, removal of rust or corrosion, restoration or replacement of damaged parts and the application of a protective coating to prevent future deterioration. In addition, the fence surrounding the fountains will undergo restoration and maintenance;
- restoration of the waterproofing layer within the water basin. The existing waterproofing layer will be removed to reinforce the underlying screed and prepare the bottom of the basin for the application of a new waterproofing layer. This will guarantee the integrity and tightness of the water basins in the fountains;
- restoration and arrangement of the river breccia mosaic pavement. The pavement surrounding the fountains will be restored by carrying out a thorough cleaning, repair of damaged sections, replacement of missing cobbles and application of a protective coating to preserve its beauty and integrity;
- overhaul and refurbishment of the water system; reactivation of the jeux d’eau. A complete overhaul will be performed on the water system of the fountains, including the repair or replacement of damaged components, inspection and optimisation of water flow to ensure proper operation of the jeux d’eau;
- design of a new artistic lighting system. A new artistic lighting system will be designed to enhance the fountains. Special lights and projectors will be installed to create suggestive light effects and highlight the architectural and sculptural features of the fountains in the evening hours.
All of these interventions will contribute to fully restoring the fountains in all their beauty and functionality and preserving them for future generations.
