Caput Mundi: Restoration of the Cupid's Fountain in Villa Doria Pamphilj
Implementing party
Project description
The fountain is currently in a poor state of conservation due to the damage to decorative elements and lack of maintenance. In 2003, and most recently in April 2020, the Fountain of the Putto was subject to vandalism, which caused the systematic demolition of the 12 decorative fleurs-de-lis. A preliminary maintenance activity has already been performed, including the removal of the biological patina and limescale deposits, along with the restoration of the profile of pillars and basins. The restoration activities will focus on the following aspects:
- historical-stylistic and conservative restoration;
- reconstruction and installation of the surviving fragments of heraldic fleurs-de-lis and reproduction of new copies;
- cleaning of the basin;
- restoration of the water functioning of the original jeux d'eau;
- lighting enhancement.
