Implementing party

Roma Capitale

Project description

The restoration works extended to both the exterior and the interior of the building, with the aim of preserving its historical integrity and enhancing the architectural and artistic elements.

For the external elements, various interventions took place, including a renovation of the gutters and monitoring of the sewerage disposal system. In addition, the waterproofing capacity of the roof was checked and measures were taken to ensure its efficiency. The plaster was overhauled and restored according to the original appearance of the building. The front door was replaced to ensure the safety and aesthetic of the building. An anti-intrusion system and new surveillance cameras were installed. A welcome area was built in front of the entrance to create a transitional zone between the inside and outside, providing additional protection from the weather. In addition, educational panels were placed inside the building to provide information about the site and its history. The panels enriched the visitor experience, allowing them to better understand the historical and artistic importance of the building.

As far as internal work is concerned, various restorations were carried out. Additional parts of the restorations performed during the 30s were removed and replaced with reconstructions that match the building's original appearance. Metal elements were replaced to ensure the safety and aesthetic of the building. Furthermore, the frescoes, stucco, mosaic niche, and shell frame were repaired and consolidated, preserving and restoring the building’s artwork. The brick shelves, stone elements, and inscriptions were restored, while the masonry surfaces were cleaned to remove accumulated dirt.

Work was carried out on the electrical system, including an air supply system to ensure proper air circulation within the building. The access stairway handrail was replaced, and the floor area was cleaned to restore its original appearance. Finally, the building's artistic lighting system was improved to highlight different architectural and artistic elements.
