Caput Mundi: Conservative restoration and enhancement of the Cistern building complex in Via Cristoforo Colombo
Implementing party
Project description
The archaeological complex consists of two large circular buildings with a green area, located in a parking lot on the beltway of via Cristoforo Colombo. The Cistern is located in a public parking lot, in an area with heavy vehicular traffic, causing heavy air pollution and vibration. Taking these characteristics into account, the project includes rehabilitation and conservative restoration of the wall apparatuses to eliminate the causes of moisture and water stagnation, restore collapsed wall elements, clean interior surfaces, reclaim interior and exterior spaces, and remove invasive weeds. Adjustments will be made to ensure accessibility and compliance with architectural barrier regulations. The closing elements of openings will be checked and supplemented, and damaged fence elements will be reinstated. The installation of technological systems and artistic lighting/illumination will help enhance the building, while new signage, emergency lights and escape routes will ensure the safety of visitors.
